This study was conducted with year four students at Vall de Llémena High School in
Sant Gregori, Catalonia to analyse students' motivation and attitude toward English
and to see if PBL had a positive effect on student engagement. In order to
understand what facilitates learning, the difference between motivation and student
engagement was explained. In a questionnaire, which generated both quantitative
and qualitative data, students were asked to compare their previous English
experience to learning through projects and were asked to define a successful
project and engaging and unengaging activities during their English class. The focus
of this study was to determine if it is the project topic or the activities within the
project that motivate students more. Their answers were then contrasted with the
answers of their English teacher, Sònia Guilana, who had been interviewed on PBL
and defined key features of a project and drawbacks of PBL implementation. The
research confirmed that students felt motivated when working on projects and they
especially preferred interactive, dynamic, authentic and useful for future activities,
but above all games through technology. Based on the teacher interview, tips on a
successful project design were outlined.^^^^

Aquest estudi s'ha realitzat amb alumnes de quart curs de l'Institut Vall de Llémena a
Sant Gregori, Catalunya per analitzar la motivació i l'actitud dels estudiants envers
l'anglès i per comprovar si el treball per projectes va tenir un efecte positiu en la
implicació dels estudiants. Per tal d'entendre què facilita l'aprenentatge, es va
explicar la diferència entre la motivació i la implicació de l'estudiant. En un
qüestionari, que va generar dades tant quantitatives com qualitatives, es va
demanar als estudiants que comparessin la seva experiència prèvia en anglès amb
l'aprenentatge mitjançant projectes i se'ls va demanar que definís un projecte d'èxit i
activitats atractives i poc atractives durant les classes d'anglès. L'objectiu d'aquest
estudi va ser determinar si és el tema del projecte o les activitats dins del projecte
els que motiven més els estudiants. A continuació, les seves respostes es van
contrastar amb les de la seva professora d'anglès, Sònia Guilana, que havia estat
entrevistada sobre treball per projectes i n'havia definit les principals característiques
del projecte i inconvenients de la implementació de PBL (Project Based Learning).
La recerca va confirmar que els alumnes se sentien motivats a l'hora de treballar en
projectes i prefereixen sobretot activitats interactives, dinàmiques, autèntiques i útils
pel futur, però sobretot els jocs a través de la tecnologia. A partir de la entrevista
amb la professora, es van esbossar consells sobre disseny d'un bon projecte.^^^^
