L’estudi que es presenta a continuació vol analitzar com es presenten els estereotips de
gènere a través de les imatges, dibuixos i fotografies en una col.lecció de llibres de text de
llengua anglesa, el Headway / New Headway de Oxford University Press, estudiant
l’evolució de les cinc edicions del llibre durant un periode de 33 anys, entre el 1986 i el
2019.
L’objectiu de la recerca pretén observar si els llibres de text presenten una visió de gènere
igualitària o si pel contrari, manté una visió de la societat conservadora i tradicional on
l’home assumeix un rol de poder i centrat en la seva imatge pública i en el món dels
negocis mentre la dona assumeix el paper de cuidadora en un àmbit privat i familiar i amb
un rol més submís.
La metodologia empreda ha estat una metodologia mixta, que inclou una revisió de
documents i un anàlisi quantitatiu i qualitatiu de les imatges utilitzant eines com ara
diferents matrius d’observació per tal de registrar les dades.
Els resultats han demostrat que tot i que s’han fet alguns petits avanços en la presentació
dels gèneres en els llibres de text a través dels anys, es continuen presentant diferències
entre gèneres i es continua invisivilitzant tota identitat sexual diferent a la heterosexual,
totalment hegemònica.^^^^

This research pretends to analyze how gender stereotypes are presented through images
and pictures in a particular collection of ESL textbooks, the Headway / New Headway from
Oxford University Press, analyzing its evolution throughout the five editions of the
collection during a period of time of 33 years, from 1986 to 2019.
The research objective wants to define if these textbooks present a gender-balanced view
or, on the contrary, they show a traditional and conservative view where men assume a
position of power and dominance and focused on their public image and in the business
world, while women assume the caregiving role in a private and familiar environment, also
being more submissive characters.
The methodology used includes a document review and a quantitative and qualitative
analysis of the images using tools like different analysis grids to register the data.
The results show how some minor changes have been done over the years but we are still
far from a real gender balance in the presentation of gender in textbooks. Furthermore, all
sexual identity different from heterosexual is completely invisibilized.^^^^
