Causes i conseqüències dels usos lingüístics dels joves d'un institut de la Catalunya Central

Abstract

El present treball té com a objectius investigar els hàbits lingüístics dels estudiants de tercer d’ESO d’un centre de la Catalunya Central i determinar-ne els factors que els condicionen. A més, també pretén esbrinar l’actitud lingüística de l’alumnat vers la llengua catalana i la matèria de català i, posteriorment, comprovar si el hàbits i actituds lingüístiques dels alumnes i el seu entorn tenen algun tipus d’incidència en l’ús que fan del català. Aquestes investigacions s’han dut a terme a través d’una metodologia quantitativa, mitjançant un qüestionari que ens ha permès definir els perfils de l’alumnat de tercer d’ESO del centre, els seus hàbits lingüístics i actituds lingüístiques. Els resultats de l’enquesta han mostrat que els joves enquestats es relacionen majoritàriament en castellà, tant dins com fora del centre, i que fins i tot combinen el català i el castellà per comunicar-se amb els professors dins l’aula. Al centre, doncs, hi ha una situació de bilingüisme asimètric i, malgrat que, per ara, la situació del català no és crítica, cal parar-hi compte perquè no es compleixen els objectius del model educatiu de conjunció lingüística en català i això, a la llarga, sí que pot tenir afectacions en la promoció de l’ús del català entre els joves i, conseqüentment, en la vitalitat d’aquesta llengua.

This study aims at examining the linguistic habits of third grade students in a Compulsory Secondary Education centre in central Catalonia, so as to define the causes which determine their linguistic habits. It also has the objective of finding out the students’ linguistic attitude towards Catalan language and the subject of Catalan and, subsequently, to check whether the linguistic habits and attitudes of the students and their environment have any kind of impact on the use they make of Catalan. These investigations were made through a quantitative methodology, using a questionnaire which has allowed us to define third grade students’ profiles, and their linguistic habits and attitudes. The questionnaire results showed that students communicate with each other, mostly, in Spanish, both inside and outside the school, and even they combine Catalan and Spanish when they want to communicate with teachers inside the classroom. So, in the centre there’s an asymmetric bilingualism and, even though the situation of Catalan language is not critic, we need to pay attention to it because the objectives of the educational model of linguistic conjunction in Catalan are not being accomplished, and this, in the future, can have a negative effect when promoting the use of the language between young people and, consequently, the vitality of Catalan language.
