Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra (CHN). Se realizarán dos grupos de forma aleatoria;

Introduction: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a poorly known syndrome that does not
have a clear etiology or a Gold Standard for diagnosis. It is characterized by the
presence of generalized chronic pain accompanied by a heterogeneous symptomatic
clinical profile. It affects 2.1% of the world's population, specifically; women are four
times more likely to suffer from FM than men. The Base Construction (BC) of the Dicke
Method is a Connective Tissue Massage technique. There are studies that indicate that
it can bring great benefits to patients suffering from FM since it can regulate the
autonomic nervous system, thus reducing its symptoms and improving quality of life.
However, this evidence is limited and refers to the need for further studies.
Objective: The purpose of the study is to determine if the application of the
Dicke method's Base Construction in women who suffer from fibromyalgia improves the
clinical symptoms and their quality of life.
Methodology: An experimental study will be conducted, specifically a
randomized, longitudinal and prospective clinical trial. 40 women between the ages of
30 and 50 who live in Navarra with a diagnosis of FM of at least 2 years and who are
currently receiving only conventional treatment at the Complejo Hospitalario de
Navarra (CHN) will be selected. Two groups will be randomly chosen; the control group
(n=20) will follow the conventional treatment and the intervention group (n=20) will
follow the conventional treatment adding the Dicke Method’s BC. Three evaluations will
be carried out: Firstly, in the first session, secondly, in the last session and lastly, 6
months after finishing the treatment. In these assessments, the pain intensity will be
evaluated by means of the Visual Analogical Scale (VAS), the pain localization using
the 5 pain quadrants established by the ACR in 2016, the severity of the fibromyalgia
by means of the Fibromyalgia Severity (FS) scale and the impact that FM causes in the
daily life of the patients through the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ).
Limitations: The main limitations of the study may be: (1) the subjectivity in the
report of the results, (2) the neglect of the study of the patients, (3) the applicability in
men and (4) the lack of universal diagnosis criteria for FM and also the lack of updating
of the criteria in patients.^^^^
