El ratpenat de bigotis petit (Myotis alcathoe) és una espècie de quiròpter recentment descrita a nivell europeu, i de la qual es desconeix la pràctica totalitat de la seva història natural. Durant l’inventari de ratpenats realitzat al PNIN Albera (Paratge Natural d’Interès Nacional de l’Albera), al nord-est de la Península Ibèrica, el 2009 va ser detectada la presència de Myotis alcathoe. Les poques dades disponibles en la literatura sobre aquesta espècie suggereixen que habita en boscos naturals de fulla caduca amb arbres grans en diferents estadis de decadència i amb punts d'aigua corrent. Entre el 2012 i 2014, durant el mesos de juliol i agost, s'han identificat un total de 18 refugis mitjançant telemetria (8 mascles adults passius, 7 femelles adultes lactants i 1 femella adulta passiva). A través d’una caracterització estricta dels arbres refugi, les cavitats i l'hàbitat circumdant, el present treball aporta informació sobre l'ús de refugis de poblacions estables d'aquesta espècie forestal estricta.
Els refugis trobats corresponen majoritàriament a boix grèvol (I. aquifolium) i a faigs (F. sylvatica). A partir de l’Índex de Jacob’s i model·lant la probabilitat d’ocupació dels refugis a través d’un model lineal generalitzat (GLM) s’ha observat que en les condicions del bosc d’estudi i durant l’època post-lactant, sembla que l’ocupació dels refugis depèn bàsicament de l’alçada, però que M. alcathoe no és sensible al diàmetre de l’arbre refugi ni a la tipologia de refugi, però que selecciona en certa proporció els I. aquifolium. No obstant i degut a la falta de diferències entre femelles lactants i individus passius aïllats, es necessiten més dades sobre la selecció de refugis per aquesta espècie en altres èpoques de l'any per poder delinear una imatge completa dels seus requeriments ecològics i les seves conseqüents mesures de conservació.
La informació de la ecologia de refugis que s’aporta permet considerar propostes pel futur de mesures de gestió de l’espai. Es recomana evitar l’explotació del bosc massiva, respectant un nombre elevat de peus vells, incloent espècies acompanyants que no són de tan interès econòmic. Essent l’única població de cria que de moment s’ha trobat a Catalunya i de les poques de la Península Ibèrica (Flaquer et al. 2010) cal prioritzar la conservació d’aquest espai natural.^^^^

The small whiskered bat (Myotis alcathoe) is a recently described species of chiroptera in Europe, and which is unknown almost all of its natural history. During the inventory of bats at the PNIN (Natural Area of National Interest)of the Albera, northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, in 2009 was detected the presence of Myotis alcathoe . The limited available data in the literature about this species suggest that inhabits deciduous natural forest with large trees in various stages of decay and points of running water.
Between 2012 and 2014, during the months of July and August, have identified a total of 18 roosts by telemetry (8 adult passive males, 7 adult lactating females and 1 adult passive female). Through a strict characterization of the roost tree, roost and surrounding habitat, the present study provides information on the use of roosts for stable populations of this tree-dwelling bat. The roost mainly found in holly (I. aquifolium) and beech (F. sylvatica). From Jacob's index and model the probability roosts occupancy through a generalized lineal model (GLM) has been observed in the conditions of the forest and during post- lactating, seems that the occupancy of roosts basically depends on the roost height, but M. alcathoe is not sensitive to the diameter of the roost tree or the type of roost, but selects certain proportion in the I. aquifolium. However and due to the lack of differences between lactating females and passive isolated individuals, we need more data on the selection of roosts for this species in other times of the year to outline a complete picture of their ecological requirements and their consequent conservation measures. The information is provided of roost ecology allows us to consider proposals for the future management measures space. It is recommended to avoid massive forest exploitation, respecting a large number of old trees, including secondary species that are not so economic interest. Being the only breeding population that currently found in Catalonia and one of the few in the Iberian Peninsula (Flaquer et al. 2010) should prioritize the conservation of this natural space.^^^^
