Use and application of the digital tool Socrative in the EFL class: analysis, evaluation, and adaptation of this tool for students with learning difficulties

Abstract

Davant el creixement de la vessant digital en l’educació i l’ensenyament de llengües, aquest Treball Final de Màster té l’objectiu d’avaluar i comparar l’ús de l’eina digital Socrative en classes d’anglès com a llengua estrangera, mesurant-ne l’eficàcia i posant especial èmfasi en els estudiants amb dificultats de l’aprenentatge. Més concretament, els objectius principals són definir una rúbrica per a eines digitals didàctiques, descriure l’eficàcia de Socrative per a estudiants amb dificultats de l’aprenentatge, i comparar l’eficàcia de Socrative en l’ensenyament i aprenentatge de continguts lèxics i continguts gramaticals en llengua anglesa. A través d’una enquesta a 37 estudiants de l’institut Olivar Gran i de la rúbrica avaluativa adreçada a professors, els resultats mostren que Socrative és una eina digital didàctica eficient per a estudiants amb dificultats de l’aprenentatge, els quals han valorat l’eina molt positivament.

In front of an increasing digital side in education and in language teaching, the aim of this thesis is to assess and compare the use of the digital tool Socrative in EFL classes, measuring its efficiency with a special focus on students with learning difficulties (LDs). More particularly, the main goals include defining an evaluation rubric for didactic digital tools; describing the efficiency that Socrative has for students with LDs; and comparing the efficiency that Socrative has in the teaching and learning process of grammar contents and lexical contents. By means of a survey answered by 37 students in Olivar Gran high school and a rubric used by teachers, the results show that Socrative is an efficient digital didactic tool for students with LDs, who have valued the tool very positively.
