Tutoring in secondary education is a central element in teaching practice and becomes
a process in which time is spent supporting and managing a group coordinated by a
teacher. The tutor of the group executes the tutorial action and carries out an
individualised support role continually. The main aim of this dissertation is to examine
the key elements that should be considered to achieve a quality tutoring so as to improve
the development of students into well-rounded individuals and support them throughout
their educational process in secondary school. A survey was fulfilled by 23 secondary
school tutors from Escola Joviat de Manresa where they answered questions related to
the three key factors set out in the theoretical framework: the tutorial function, the
teacher’s training, and the tutor’s perception of the importance of tutoring. The paper
concludes that these three elements are key factors that must be considered in
conducting quality tutoring. These are vital when it comes to ensuring the rounded
development of students and supporting them during their training process in secondary
education.^^^^
