Analysis of teacher talk in the late years of primary education

Abstract.

English is a mandatory subject for all schools under the Catalan curriculum. It is known that teacher talk is the main source of input most of the students will receive through their whole childhoods. This dissertation aims to discover how are some strategies used within teacher talk in EFL classrooms in Catalan schools and how they can provide communicative and non-communicative approaches. The study consists of a deep analysis from three sessions in the fifth grade of primary education from three different schools. Resum. L’anglès és una assignatura obligatòria per totes les escoles sota l’actual currículum català d’educació. La parla dels professors en anglès és la font majoritària de llengua anglesa que rebran els alumnes durant la seva infantesa. L’objectiu d’aquest treball de final de grau és descobrir com certes estratègies son utilitzades dins de la parla dels professors en escoles catalanes i com aquestes poden aportar enfocaments més o menys comunicatius. L’estudi consisteix en l’anàlisi de tres sessions a cinquè de primària en tres escoles diferents. Paraules clau: Parla del/la mestre/a, estratègies, característiques, ensenyament de l’anglès com a llengua estrangera.
