Life migratoebre (LIFE12 NAT/ES/0237): avaluació de les migracions de diverses espècies de peixos per sistemes de telemetria ultrasònica al tram final del riu Ebre (Catalunya)

Abstract

Actualment es tenen coneixements dels moviments generals de les espècies de peixos d’aigües continentals, però no tant el detall dels seus moviments a conques concretes, i menys en rius mediterranis. En aquest cas, s’estudien els peixos migradors del tram final de l’Ebre (SO de Catalunya) i la seva relació amb el cabal i la presència d’obstacles. En aquest riu hi ha diversos obstacles que afecten els desplaçaments migratoris de la majoria dels peixos: un d’ells és l’assut de Xerta. Per això també s’obté informació dels seus moviments migratoris per conèixer com els afecten i si és important prendre mesures per millorar la seva permeabilitat, tant des de riu amunt com des de riu avall. L’objectiu principal d’aquest estudi, associat al projecte LIFE MIGRATOEBRE (LIFE13 NAT/ES/000237) és conèixer el moviment de cinc espècies de peixos autòctons al tram final del riu Ebre que es troben molt amenaçades: l’anguila europea (Anguilla anguilla), la saboga (Alosa fallax), la llissa calua (Chelon ramada), la llissa llobarrera (Mugil cephalus) i la llissa vera (Chelon labrosus), per mitjà de l’anàlisi de dades de telemetria ultrasònica obtingudes a partir del marcatge i seguiment de peixos. Els objectius específics són: i) conèixer els patrons de moviment de l’anguila, la saboga i les llisses al tram final de l’Ebre per mitjà de telemetria ultrasònica; ii) determinar-hi possibles problemàtiques associades a la migració dels peixos i la connectivitat fluvial; iii) valorar possibles limitacions del sistema de monitoratge de peixos a l’Ebre. Es realitza un monitoratge per sistemes de telemetria ultrasònica d’entre el maig de 2017 i el març de 2020 d’un total de 150 exemplars: 61 anguiles europees, 45 sabogues, 10 llisses calues, 21 llisses llobarreres o cabeçuts i 13 llisses veres. De les dades obtingudes es va analitzar: a) la distància del tram final del riu fins a la seva desembocadura a la mar Mediterrània (en un total de 111 km), b) on es trobava cada individu marcat respecte del temps (en dies), c) els índexs de platejament de les anguiles (seguint Durif et al., 2005), d) els temps de retorn del comportament normal, e) els temps de retorn al lloc de captura de cada peix, f) els temps en què s’estan al lloc on viuen (core area activity) i g) l’índex de residència per a totes les espècies (seguint Le Pichon et al., 2015). Això ha permès conèixer millor els moviments i els patrons migradors dels peixos a l’Ebre i, especialment, identificar problemes concrets en relació als desplaçaments riu avall de les llisses i les anguiles. També es proposen millores a la metodologia de mostreig i seguiment.

There is currently a knowledge of the general movements of inland fish species, but not so much the detail of their movements in specific basins, let alone in Mediterranean rivers. In this case, the migratory fish of the final section of the Ebre river (SW of Catalonia) and their relationship with the flow and the presence of obstacles are studied. In this river there are several obstacles that affect the migratory movements of most fish: one of them is the Xerta weir. For this reason, information is also obtained on their migratory movements to find out how they affect them and whether it is important to take measures to improve their permeability, upstream and downstream the river obstacles. The main objective of this study, associated with the LIFE MIGRATOEBRE project (LIFE13 NAT/ES/000237) is to know the movement of five species of native fish in the final stretch of the Ebre river that are highly endangered: European eel (Anguilla anguilla), twaite shad (Alosa fallax), thinlip mullet (Chelon ramada), flathead grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) and thicklip grey mullet (Chelon labrosus), through the analysis of ultrasonic telemetry data obtained from the marking and fish monitoring. The specific objectives are: i) to know the movement patterns of the eel, twaite shad and mullets in the lower stretch of the Ebre river by means of ultrasonic telemetry; ii) to determine possible problems associated to fish migration and river connectivity; iii) to know possible limitations of this fish monitoring system in the Ebre. Monitoring by ultrasonic telemetry systems is carried out between May 2017 and March 2020 for a total of 150 specimens: 61 European eels, 45 twaite shads, 10 thinlip mullets, 21 flathead grey mullet and 13 thicklip grey mullets. From the data obtained was analyzed: a) the distance of the final stretch of the river until its mouth in the Mediterranean Sea (a total of 111 km), b) where was each individual and at what time (in days), c) the eel silvering indexes (according to Durif et al., 2005), d) the return time to a normal behavior, e) the return time to the site of capture, f) the time at which they are at the core area (core area activity), and g) the index of residence for all species (following Le Pichon et al., 2015). This has allowed better understand the migratory movements and patterns of fish in the Ebre and, in particular, to identify specific problems in relation to the movements downstream of mullets and eels. Improvements to the sampling and monitoring methodology have also been proposed.
