In the last few years the introduction of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) into Preschool
Education has experienced an important growth, although it is not a compulsory
language at this stage (3-6 years). One of the most challenging aspects of teaching EFL
may be classroom management, particularly because it should be done in English.
Taking the issues above into account, the present study has as its main objective to
analyse the influence of teacher talk in classroom management in the EFL pre-school
classroom. In order to carry out this case study under the interpretative paradigm, data
has been collected from classroom observation, interviews to teachers, and also from a
review of educational documents from the three Catalan schools. Data has been
analysed according to Cullen’s (1998) and Inceçay’s (2010) classification of teacher talk
features. The results of the study indicate that both obstructive and constructive features
in teacher talk are used to manage the EFL Pre-school classroom.^^^^

En els últims anys, la introducció de l’anglès com a llengua estrangera (EFL) a l’etapa
d’Educació Infantil, ha experimentat un important creixement tot i no ser llengua
obligatòria en aquesta etapa (3-6 anys). Un dels reptes més desafiants de
l’ensenyament de l’anglès podria ser la gestió de l’aula, particularment perquè cal que
també sigui en anglès. Tenint en compte els aspectes comentats, aquest estudi té com
a objectiu principal analitzar la influència del discurs del mestre en la gestió de les
sessions d’anglès a l’aula d’Educació Infantil. Per tal de dur a terme aquest estudi de
cas, subordinat al paradigma Interpretatiu, la informació s’ha obtingut a partir
d’observacions de sessions d’anglès, d’entrevistes a les mestres i de l’anàlisi dels
projectes educatius de centre de les tres escoles catalanes. Les dades obtingudes s’han
analitzat segons les classificacions del discurs del mestre proposades per Cullen (1998)
i Inceçay (2010). Els resultats obtinguts indiquen que tant les característiques
constructives com les obstructives del discurs s’utilitzen per gestionar les sessions
d’anglès a l’aula d’Educació Infantil.^^^^
